This time of year, in the heart of December, the wonder of Christmas is felt all around. It can be found in the bright twinkle of lights displayed on homes big and small, or experienced with the sound of Christmas carols serenading us in every store we browse. The wonder of Christmas (depending on where you live) might even be felt in the quiet hush of the first snowflake slowly drifting to the ground.

For me, I find Christmas wonder in the peace of the morning, while the winter sunrise is starting to ascend and my Christmas tree is all aglow. There, in the stillness of the moment, I inquisitively marvel at the wonder of Christmas – an event so large, so remarkable, that it is celebrated by almost the entire world.

won·der
noun
- a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable
Have you ever stopped to wonder how amazing it is that the birth of Jesus is celebrated in a multitude of nations, countless homes and billions of hearts? It is incredible to think of how many people are all consecutively celebrating Christmas together. Even if some of them are not fully aware of what they are celebrating, they are partaking of the wonder and mysteries of the Christmas season. If it is consciously recognized or not, the wonder of Christmas is still felt underneath the current – like a rippling tide of unseen, powerful glory amidst all the glitter and gold displayed on the surface.
If it is consciously recognized or not, the wonder of Christmas is still felt underneath the current – like a rippling tide of unseen, powerful glory amidst all the glitter and gold displayed on the surface.
The true reason for the season is Jesus. The miracle of His birth is where the real wonder of Christmas is fully felt – and unrestrainedly expressed. Jesus, the son of God, born of a virgin to save the world, came in the purest of form . He came in unimaginable love. He came to save us from sin and everlasting shame. He came to heal, redeem and make a way for us to be reconciled to the Father. The birth of our Savior Jesus Christ astonishingly displayed a multitude of unexplainable miracles! That is wondrous indeed, friends! Wondrous indeed!
An angel appears to shepherds in the fields and tells them about the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. The angel says, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:8-14
For those of us who walk in a daily relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, we feel the wonder of Christmas with us throughout the entire year, with Christmastime magnifying His presence and work in our lives. For those who do not know Him, I am confident that the wonder of Christmas whispers into their hearts and homes every December, as the Holy Spirit calls to their longing spirt in a multitude of ways. Like my favorite Christmas Carol sings, “Long lay the world in sin and error pining. Till he appeared in the soul felt it’s worth.” (O holy Night).
Somehow, in spite of all the Christmas chaos, parties, presents and desserts, His voice still speaks to the very heart of every person. If we listen we can hear it.
As some choose decorations for their home, deciding on a Santa Claus, snowman or gingerbread, they will most likely happen upon the humble manger scene as an option, as well. There the wonder of Christmas will spark in their soul. The true meaning of Christmas calls to their curious heart and asks the question, “Is this story of Jesus really true?”

Among the “silver bells” and “brown paper packages tied up with string” others will see the star of Bethlehem and feel hope and peace that might feel foreign to them – unlike anything they have ever felt before. That is the wonder of Christmas. The passionate pursuit of our souls from a living and active God who still, all these years later, loves humanity just the same as the day He came into the world.
Regardless of whether we respond to the voice of the Lord or not, He is always there – calling to us and trying to show us the depth of His love. This time of year, it’s that wonder of Christmas that intrigues the lost and draws them to inquire of what it all could really mean. The core reason for it all.
Love.
A spark of wonder, a glimmer of hope, a taste of joy and a boost of faith. The wonder of Christmas brings peace. Peace on earth and goodwill to men. It brings the truth of the gospel. It brings our aching souls the soothing comfort we need.

The wonder of Christmas brings us to Jesus.
Let Heaven and nature sing! He is our true joy. The reason we can have peace that makes no sense.
I encourage each and every one of you to take a moment this season to experience the wonder of Christmas! Ask Jesus, the Savior of the world, to come into your heart. I guarantee you will never be the same.
Merry Christmas, friends!
May God’s blessing be upon you as you celebrate all He has done and bask in the glory of the wonder of Christmas!
