sim·pli·fy
/ˈsimpləˌfī/
verb
- make (something) simpler or easier.
To simplify means to get back to basics. Off-load and reassess.
Sometimes, a simpler life is exactly what is needed. We can easily complicate things, allowing distractions and time-fillers to overrun our mind and steal our energy. This is where I have found myself lately.
Simplify. That is what I hear the Lord saying.
Scripture teaches us in Proverbs,
“Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great wealth with turmoil.” –Proverbs 15:16, NIV
Join me, friend, in asking the Lord to highlight the things in our life that can be pruned back, cut away or removed. Then let’s ask for wisdom and discernment to see what He wants us to spend our time tending to – giving those things on His list more space to flourish.
When God’s will is what we truly seek then our joy is found again. In the simple rhythms of life; the fresh morning breeze, the changing leaves skipping along the sidewalk or the wag of a dogs happy tail.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21, ESV
Let God lead the way and life will be much more simple.
I am going to do just this! Are you with me?
I love the quote by the author Lysa TerKeurst from her book, “I’ll Start Again Monday,” that says,
“Expecting anything outside the will of God to satisfy us is idolatry.”
Isn’t that the truth?
A simple life can mean a fulfilled life. A meaningful life. A life of designed purpose, prosperity and peace.
Be Blessed, friends! Happy simplifying!
