Oh Lord, You’re Beautiful

“Oh, Lord, You’re beautiful

Your face is all I seek

For when Your eyes are on this child

Your grace abounds to me”

This song, written by Keith Green, keeps playing over and over in my mind. As I go throughout my day I see so much of the beauty of the Lord all around. Often I feel compelled to stop and take a picture of a tree, a flower, a sunset or a cup of coffee. Yes, my camera roll is full! I just can’t help it and I find myself in awe of the beauty of the Lord.

This song recites in my mind as I ponder all the goodness of God and His magnificent creation at every turn. God’s beauty intrigues me to seek after Him on a deeper level, to get to know Him more intimately. His beauty inspires me to share His treasures with others and it sets a fire in my spirit that burns with holy fear.

The song lyrics read,

“Oh, Lord, You’re beautiful

Your face is all I seek

For when Your eyes are on this child

Your grace abounds to me

I want to take your word and shine it all around

But first help me to live it Lord

And when I’m doing well, help me to never seek a crown

For my reward is giving glory to you

Oh, Lord, please light the fire

That once burnt bright and clear

Replace the lamp of my first love

That burns with holy fear”

You can listen to the song here.

The beauty of the Lord is found everywhere. I see it in the streaming gleam of a sun ray, I inhale it through the sweet aroma of a blossoming flower or feel it in the soft touch of a cozy blanket. It can be found in the comfort of a forgiving embrace, in the sound of a loved-one’s encouraging words or in the relief of a helping hand in a dire time of need.

God’s amazing beauty is most remarkable to me when I cease my hustle and bustle and purposefully quiet my soul to seek His face. I find so much wonder in the substantial weight of His magnificent presence. When I catch a glimpse, with my spiritual eyes, of Him looking back at me, it sets my heart ablaze as I bask in His glory and grace.

The word of God says, in Jeremiah 29:13, that “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

When we seek the Lord, we find Him. He reveals Himself to us layer after layer and we discover that He really is oh so beautiful!

When we seek the Lord, we find Him. He reveals Himself to us layer after layer and we discover that He really is oh so beautiful!  His beauty is all I seek. He is the Creator of all things and I just want to know Him better. His beauty draws me in, like a moth to a flame, and leaves me in quiet wonder of His extraordinary love. It is hard to keep His beauty and love to myself. Like the song says, I want to shine it all around. But, yes Lord, help me to never seek a crown – for my reward is giving glory to you!

Here are a few pictures I have captured over the past few months. Each of these photos were taken in a moment that made me whisper, “Oh Lord, you’re beautiful!” My prayer, friends, is that you too will seek Him, find Him and experience His glory and beauty!

Be blessed!

An intensely beautiful sunset in our neighborhood that I captured while out on a walk one evening.
A delicate rose, wrapped in white, that I laid on the casket of a loved one. She is with Jesus now.
A honey bee hard at work pollinating the flowers on our backyard crepe myrtle tree.
My morning cup of coffee on the back porch.
The sun shining over the top of our front yard coral-bark Japanese maple tree.
Sun rays bursting out of the clouds over our house.
Our sweet Allie sniffing the fresh morning breeze through the open window.

  1. THIS! Just reading this is a beautiful deep breathe of fresh air. It helps me to come back to the core of who God created us to be….Just SIMPLY worshippers of Him. It brings me back to what I like to call the “Ma” mentality. No frills. No fluff or rush. Simple. Plain and humble. Grateful.
