Giving and receiving Christmas cards is a timeless tradition dating back to 1875 here in America. It is something I have learned to look forward to each year. I enjoy preparing my own card to send out just as much as finding the happy greetings waiting for me inside our mailbox throughout the month of December.
When my husband and I were first married we were only receiving a few cards per year. Back then I was displaying them on a big mirror by using double-sided tape. However over the years we have grown to accumulate quite a few cards by Christmas Day. Now I display them on a door by our entryway so they can be viewed by us daily as well as all of our guests.
This Christmas card holder method is quite simple.
Supplies:
- 4 to 8 yards of Christmas ribbon
- Several miniature (or regular sized) clothes pins
A few years ago, I found miniature clothes pins already decorated with felt Christmas trees and snowflakes at the dollar store. They work prefect for clipping the cards to the ribbon – and look adorable, too!

Instructions:
- Wrap the ribbon completely around the door and tie it in a small bow on the backside of the door. You can do one strip of ribbon vertically and one strip horizontally.
- Then I like to add a big bow in the front to make the door appear to be a giant Christmas present (thank you to my friend Kristy for showing me how to make the bow this year).
- Clip your cards onto the ribbon using the clothes pins.
The past few years, I have needed more space than just the two strips of ribbon have provided, so I have begun adding two extra strips of ribbon (three vertical strips and one horizontal) to accommodate more cards.
It really looks festive and I love the way it highlights the Christmas cards as a part of our Christmas decorations!
I hope you give this Christmas card holder a try. It is a beautiful way I have found to put all our greetings on display.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season, friends!
Blessings to you and your families!
