A Light Unto My Path

As the morning sun rises and slowly begins its lengthy stretch across the vast, expansive sky, it boldly announces a fresh new day. Another new beginning.

My sleepy eyes begin to flutter open. I pull myself up and place my feet firmly on the floor. As I rise to face another day, I thank the Lord.

Each and every new day holds many mysteries. Some days are usual, routine and normal. Others are extraordinary. They all come with tasks, decisions, emotions and responsibilities included.

I have found that when I begin each new day making time for Jesus, He, in return, gives me back more time to complete everything else I need to accomplish. Time spent with the Lord each morning is never wasted.

I open the blinds and pull back the curtains. Fresh sunlight fills the rooms. I pour a cup of steaming coffee and then go to the source of everything I will need for the new day. God and His Word.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalms 119:105

Just as I had opened my blinds and the sunlight poured into my home, I open my Bible and the fresh light of The Son pours into my soul.

Within the detailed pages of the Bible I discover adventure.

I receive encouragement.

I encounter love.

I am immersed in peace.

I learn of truth.

I am extended grace.

I feel joy.

I am promised abundance.

My life is given purpose as The Word of God lights my path into each new day. It highlights the place I should focus and directs each step that I should place my feet. Just like a candle in the darkness or a lantern in the night, God’s Word lights up the pathway before me.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”John 1:5

As the sunrise awakens my physical body, the words of The Son, rise and awaken my spirit – pouring forth from His sovereign word just as sun rays filling up the morning.

Leaving the security of our home to tread through a darkened world would not be successful without a light to see where we are going. We would bump into unforeseen obstacles, injure ourselves or even become lost – groping in the pitch blackness. It is, in the same way, also unproductive to start each day without allowing the Word of God to light our way.

I encourage you today, to let the Holy Word of the Lord to shine on your pathway. Open the Bible and allow His light to shine into your soul. He has so much to reveal to us from the scriptures.

Let’s open the blinds and let the sun in and open our Bibles to also let the Son in together! Then, when we have received the light of Jesus, we can gladly and generously share it with others. One who has soaked in the Son will be a light on a hilltop – attracting many who are lost, wandering and afraid.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
