Today I was going about my daily tasks around the house and feeling a bit down. Life has felt a few pounds heavier these past couple of months and I have been struggling to find my footing amidst new routines and responsibilities. That, in addition to the start of a new year, a mid-life birthday (gulp!) and pondering the promises of God and what the future might hold, has accumulated into a weightier burden than I am normally accustomed to.
As I was busy with my day and processing my ever-evolving train of thought, my mundane moment was interrupted.
By The Lord.
He said,
“I am the God who sees.”
I recognized His voice immediately and my heart responded in quick correction and agreement, “Yes, Lord! You see me. I am not alone.”
El Roi (Hebrew: אל ראי)
El Roi is one of the names of God in the Hebrew Bible. It is commonly translated as “the God who sees me” and is both a descriptive epithet for God using the word “El” (God) and a modifier indicating a quality of God.
In the Bible, there is a story of a woman named Hagar (Genesis 16) who was in a desolate and desperate situation. She had run away from a problem and found herself alone and facing death. An angel of the Lord appeared to her, giving her instruction on what to do.
“She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’ ” – Genesis 16:13
In the middle of her difficult moment, God showed up.
In the middle of my every-day chores, God did the same for me.
Isn’t it incredible to think (or more accurately, to know) that God sees you? He sees your going out and coming in. He sees you laughing at the funny thing your dog just did or you shaking your head at the joke your friend just told. He sees the empty cupboards or the dwindling bank account. He sees the tears you’ve cried on your pillow at night or your excitement when you get that good news you’ve been waiting for. He sees you bringing in the groceries, paying the bills and sorting laundry.
He sees you!
Just knowing He is there brings so much comfort to the soul. To know that even in our darkest times, He is there and we are never alone – not for one second.
You see, for the past couple of days I have been feeling alone in my struggles. I know that is not the truth, but feelings can try to override at times. I was looking around me to find who could possibly relate to what I was going through – and even though I know so many have hardships and trials going on, I couldn’t find any that I felt would understand. Isn’t that exactly what the enemy wants us to think? That we are alone.
I have had a relationship with Jesus long enough to recognize that baited lie in front of me, wrapped up and presented as truth to seem tempting. And even though I spoke the truth over myself these past few days …the thought kept coming… “I feel so alone.”
Then….God spoke.

When God speaks, it is settled.
I felt a hush come over the struggle I was battling and rest approached my searching heart.
He is with me. He sees me.
I loved what He said to me so much that I added it to my letter board displayed on my bedroom dresser. Now, every time I look at it I will be reminded. God sees. He sees me. I am not alone.

Isn’t He wonderful?
Do you have a relationship with Jesus, friend? If not, you can! It’s so simple. The Bible says if you believe in your heart that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for your sins, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9-10 says, “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
If you have never prayed and asked the Lord to come into your heart, forgive you of your sins and be your personal Savior you can pray along to this prayer below,
“Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, who came into this world (born of a virgin) to die on the cross for my sins. I ask you now to come into my heart and change me from the inside out. Be my Savior and my God. Forgive me of my sins and make me new. Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer for the first time today then your name was just written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelations 20:15). All of heaven is rejoicing and I am rejoicing with you! Let me be the first to say, ” Welcome to the family!!!!!”
My prayer is that all will come to intimately know “The God Who Sees.” El Roi!
Be blessed, my friends!
God is with you!
