Succulents are fairly new to my garden. I have been collecting them for a little over a year now. They are generally very easy to maintain and do not require a lot of attention, so it has been fun to sit back and simply enjoy their green glory.
After a while however, they do like to grow tall or long and a few of mine definitely needed to be trimmed back. I decided that this summer was a great time to try my hand at clipping them and attempting to propagate the leaves.
I have documented the process below along with the progress that was made. It was fun to learn something new!
How To Propagate Succulents:
Step 1) Clip the top off the succulent and set aside.

Step 2) Remove the leaves by gently twisting from side to side (left to right).

Step3) Throw away the torn leaves and keep the ones with the clean break.

Step 4) Place the good leaves along with the top succulent clipping on a tray in the indirect sunlight and allow them to callous for two to three days.

Step 5) After the tips have calloused, place fresh soil in a tray and set the leaves on top of the soil. At this point you can replant the calloused top clipping in a fresh pot.

Step 6) Spray leaves with a mist every two to three days (or as needed), until you see roots begin to grow from the ends. This process will take two to three weeks or longer.

Step 7) Once you see the roots sprouting, the baby succulents will appear a few days later. When you see baby succulents it’s time to pot them and let them grow.

This is the process I followed and although it takes some time in between each step, it is so very simple and easy.
I officially have three baby succulents growing and thriving in their new potted home. I also have the two top clippings happily repotted, as well as the base I clipped from growing a new stalk. Over all I had about twenty leaves to propagate and only three survived – but it was a great learning experience and I really enjoyed trying something new.
If you decide to try it for yourself, I would love to know how you did! Reach out and let me know.
Happy propagating, friends!
Be Blessed!
